Then he took the bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them, saying, "This is my body, which will be given for you; do this in memory of me." And likewise the cup, after they had eaten, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which will be shed for you."
- Luke 22:19-20
As Catholics, we believe the Eucharist is the Real Presence of Jesus Christ. In Consecration, through the hands of a priest and the grace of God, bread and wine are really and truly transubstantiated - transformed in substance - into the body and blood of Christ.
Christ initiated the Eucharist at the Last Supper, the night before He was crucified.
"The Sacraments are rooted in discipleship." Divine Renovation, p. 205, Our goal is to help families raise devoted disciples of Jesus Christ. Our desire, our mission, therefore, is for every person to encounter Jesus Christ in a life-changing way.
Parents of children interested in the Sacrament of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion for their child may contact John Schneider at the Parish office (315) 769-2469. To have a registration form emailed to you, please complete this information below.
There is no longer a specific age or grade requirement for the Sacrament of First Holy Communion. Instead, preparation will be based on the readiness of both the child and the family. In general, children may begin this process around the age of 7, as the family participates in Parish life along with weekly Sunday Mass.
To support this preparation, the parish will provide materials for families to use at home, helping children develop the necessary understanding of the sacraments. We use the "Blessed" program by Dynamic Catholic, with free videos and workbooks for both Reconciliation and First Holy Communion.
Children in grades K–6 are also highly encouraged to participate in our Children’s Liturgy of the Word, currently offered during the 9:30 AM and 11:00 AM Sunday Masses. Additionally, our monthly Super Sunday family events offer a fun and engaging way to grow in the Catholic faith, celebrating its rich traditions and seasons together as a family. Super Sundays are generally the first Sunday of the month during the school year, from 9:00am until about 10:45am.
Final readiness for receiving First Holy Communion will be determined by our pastor, Father Mark.
